Persistent mid-level ridging over the Southern Plains has established hot, mostly sunny conditions across central Texas, with NWS and model guidance pointing to a peak temperature near 98–100°F for Austin on August 31. South-southeast winds of 5–10 mph and minimal cloud cover support efficient daytime heating above the long-term average high of 94.6°F, while low dew points limit moisture feedback. The close market split between 98–99°F and 100–101°F reflects small uncertainties in model timing of any weak seabreeze influence or afternoon mixing depth, which could trim or boost the daily maximum by a degree or two. Forecasters note continued dry stability through early September, with the next round of guidance updates likely to refine the exact peak.
