Latest National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model runs point to a Thursday high in the low 80s for New York City under partly sunny skies and southwesterly flow ahead of an approaching cold front. This setup supports the tight market clustering between the 80–81°F and 82–83°F bins, reflecting modest forecast spread and the 20–30% chance of afternoon showers that could cap peak readings. Historical September 17 averages near 76°F provide context for the above-normal warmth, while the slim odds on 84°F+ outcomes align with limited model support for stronger ridging or delayed frontal passage. Updated NWS briefings and afternoon observations on the 17th will refine the final observed maximum at Central Park.
