China’s July CPI print of 0.5% year-on-year, below consensus, has anchored expectations for the August annual rate amid persistent food-price weakness, especially pork, and slower non-food gains tied to subdued domestic demand and easing global energy costs. The near-even split between the 0.7–0.8% and 0.5–0.6% brackets reflects uncertainty over whether weak retail-sales momentum and producer-price moderation will hold or shift due to seasonal holiday spending, fresh policy support, or commodity rebounds. Upcoming data on industrial output, key price categories, and external factors could separate the leading brackets before the September release.
