Recent July 2026 CPI data, showing a 0.1% headline MoM rise and 0.2% core increase with the annual rate easing to 3.4% and 2.5% respectively, anchors trader expectations for August around 0.3-0.4% MoM. Cleveland Fed nowcasts project 0.35% headline and 0.20% core for the month, reflecting persistent shelter contributions offset by softening energy prices and stable food costs. With probabilities closely split between the top two outcomes, market-implied odds incorporate uncertainty over potential volatility in gasoline and used vehicles ahead of the September 11 release, while broader moderation in core trends supports the consensus range amid a labor market that remains supportive of gradual disinflation.
