Letitia Plummer secured the Democratic nomination after defeating former Houston mayor Annise Parker in the May 2026 primary runoff, positioning her as the clear favorite in heavily Democratic Harris County. Republican nominee Orlando Sanchez advanced by winning his runoff but faces structural headwinds, reflected in Plummer’s internal August poll showing a 53-37 percent lead with 9 percent undecided. Sanchez’s early fundraising edge and prior roles as county treasurer and city council member provide some counterbalance, yet the county’s consistent Democratic voting patterns and the open seat after incumbent Lina Hidalgo’s retirement have consolidated trader support around Plummer ahead of the November 3 general election.
