This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the highest temperature recorded by NOAA at the LaGuardia Airport Station in degrees Fahrenheit on 28 Aug '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from NOAA, specifically the highest reading under the "Temp" column for all times on this day, available here: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=klga This market will resolve off of the Hourly Data provided using the "Show Hourly Data" button. If NOAA data is unavailable or missing for the observation period, Weather Underground will be used as the secondary resolution source. To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the "Switch to US Units w/ kts" button until the relevant table displays °F. This market can not resolve until the first data point for the following date has been published on the resolution source. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Fahrenheit (eg, 21°F). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.**Forecast models from the National Weather Service and private sources converge on a highest temperature near 82–84°F for New York City on August 28, 2026, consistent with the market’s top outcomes (82–83°F at 43.5%, 80–81°F at 23.5%, and 84–85°F at 22.5%).** Normal August highs average 82°F at Central Park, so today’s expected range sits close to climatology but with modest upward or downward variance driven by cloud cover and convection. Key scientific drivers include a post-frontal airmass with west-to-northwest flow, reduced humidity after overnight clearing, and afternoon instability that supports a 30–40% chance of showers or thunderstorms. These storms can cap temperatures by limiting solar heating or allow brief spikes if they hold off until late in the day. Model consensus shows highs in the low-to-mid 80s across Central Park, LaGuardia, and JFK, with little spread between guidance runs issued late on August 27. Recent developments reinforce this positioning: widespread severe thunderstorms on August 27 brought heavy rain and gusty winds that moistened the boundary layer but also cleared skies overnight, setting up partly sunny conditions for the 28th. No major heat ridge or tropical moisture plume is present to push values into the upper 80s or higher, keeping the probability of 86°F+ below 10%. Traders appear to weight the official NWS point forecasts and ensemble means most heavily, producing tight clustering around the 80–85°F bins while assigning negligible odds to extremes outside historical late-August variability.
