Nicolás Maduro faces multiple U.S. federal charges including narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy following his January 2026 capture and transfer to New York custody. He and co-defendant Cilia Flores entered not guilty pleas at arraignment, with defense counsel preparing motions to dismiss on sovereign immunity grounds and other procedural challenges. A federal judge set the trial for June 1, 2027, with a November 2026 pre-trial hearing scheduled for those filings. The extended timeline before any jury verdict, combined with historical patterns in complex extraterritorial cases and potential for partial resolutions or acquittals on individual counts, underpins trader expectations that a full conviction on every charge remains unlikely in the near term.
