Official forecasts from the National Weather Service and ensemble models point to a San Francisco low near 58°F on September 20, driven by a strengthening marine layer with stratus and onshore westerly flow off the cool Pacific. The California Current and coastal upwelling maintain ocean temperatures around 55–58°F, limiting overnight radiative cooling and producing typical late-summer lows close to the 1991–2020 average of 55.8°F. Recent model runs show consistent marine-layer depth and wind patterns with minimal spread, supporting the market’s 52% implied probability on the 58–59°F bin while assigning lower odds to warmer or cooler outcomes. Updated NWS guidance and next model cycle tonight will refine the final reading.
