This market will resolve to "Yes" if the United States' long-term sovereign credit letter rating is downgraded by any of the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) at any point by December 31, 2026 11:59pm ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Recent affirmations by S&P Global Ratings in June 2026 and Fitch Ratings in August 2026, both holding the U.S. sovereign rating at AA+ with stable outlooks, have reinforced trader expectations against another downgrade before 2027. These assessments cite economic resilience, the dollar’s reserve-currency status, and tariff revenues helping contain deficits despite elevated debt-to-GDP levels. Moody’s Aa1 rating, assigned after its May 2025 downgrade, carries a comparable stable outlook. With no major fiscal legislation or political impasse since those actions, rating agencies show no near-term intent to act further. Traders price the implied probability of “No” at 86.5% accordingly, viewing stable outlooks and institutional strengths as outweighing longer-term deficit pressures within the resolution window.
