Recent polling and candidate profiles position Independent Ireland’s Noel Thomas as the frontrunner in the Galway West by-election, with Fine Gael’s Seán Kyne close behind on first preferences amid a fragmented field of 17 contenders. Thomas has gained traction through emphasis on immigration and cost-of-living concerns, while Kyne draws on his prior Dáil experience and strong second-preference flows in the Irish Times/TG4 survey. Labour’s Helen Ogbu leads the scattered left vote, and smaller parties such as Sinn Féin, Social Democrats, and Fianna Fáil trail. With voting scheduled for 22 May, traders reflect the competitive dynamics and the potential for late transfers to decide the outcome in this single-seat contest.
