Recent June data showed China's annual CPI easing to 1.0% from 1.2% in May, driven by softer non-food gains amid lower transport costs after Middle East tensions eased and persistent food price declines from weak pork and fruit markets. Weak domestic demand continues to limit pass-through of producer costs, keeping core inflation near 1.0%. Traders see these patterns likely persisting into July, creating a tight contest between the 0.9-1.0% and 1.1-1.2% brackets as the market awaits the August 9 release. Any upside surprise in energy or services prices could shift sentiment toward higher outcomes, while further demand softness or commodity drops would favor the lower range.
