General elections are scheduled to be held in Malta on May 30, 2026. This market will resolve to the individual who is formally appointed as Prime Minister of Malta following the 2026 Maltese general election. To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed as Prime Minister of Malta following the 2026 Maltese general election. Any interim or caretaker head of government will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Prime Minister is appointed by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Malta; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Robert Abela holds a commanding position as the clear frontrunner to remain Malta’s prime minister following his call for a snap general election on 30 May 2026. As incumbent leader of the Labour Party, Abela benefits from established party machinery, recent opinion polls showing Labour ahead by double-digit margins, and the advantages of governing during a period of geopolitical uncertainty that he cited as justification for advancing the vote. Traders have priced in these structural factors, assigning only modest probability to Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg despite his recent campaign rallies and criticism of government incumbency. Late-campaign developments such as unexpected polling shifts, high voter turnout surprises, or major scandals involving either major party could still alter the outcome before election night.
