Incumbent Republican Ann Wagner's nomination after defeating primary challengers and the district's R+6 partisan lean position the Republican Party as the clear frontrunner in the Missouri 2nd congressional district race. Democratic nominee Fred Wellman, who won his August 4 primary, benefits from national party targeting of suburban seats and a May poll showing him within three points, yet the seat's voting history and recent redistricting favor the incumbent. Trader consensus at 77% Republican reflects these structural advantages ahead of the November general election, with limited shifts expected absent major late developments.
