Recent forecast shifts toward a Bay Area heat wave driven by a weakening marine layer and reduced sea breeze have elevated overnight lows for September 9, supporting trader emphasis on the 66-67°F range at 36% alongside the 55°F-or-below bucket. San Francisco’s typical September marine influence, which draws cooler Pacific air via the onshore flow and maintains historical average lows near 56°F, faces competition from warmer aloft conditions and reduced cloud cover that limit radiational cooling. Model consensus remains split on the precise timing and strength of any returning westerly winds, creating genuine uncertainty reflected in closely matched leading outcomes. Updated National Weather Service guidance and overnight observations will refine these probabilities ahead of resolution.
