Incumbent Mike Thompson seeks renomination in California's June 2 top-two primary for the safely Democratic 4th District, facing a primary challenge from Eric Jones, a younger venture capitalist emphasizing the affordability crisis and generational economic pressures. Multiple Republican candidates, including Sharon Brown, Mandy Ghusar, and Jimih Jones, are also on the ballot alongside an independent entrant, though the district's partisan lean favors Democratic advancement. Thompson holds endorsements from the California Democratic Party, labor unions, and Young Democrats, while Jones has drawn support from progressive groups. With filing deadlines passed and voting weeks away, campaign focus remains on turnout among Democratic voters and the potential for the top two finishers to determine the general election matchup.
