The primary drivers are sustained economic pressure from the U.S.-Iran conflict that began in February, which has elevated gasoline and diesel prices, and weak public ratings on cost-of-living issues at just 17% approval. These factors have weighed on independents and eroded backing within the president’s own party ahead of the November 3 midterms. Approval started the second term near 47% on promises to curb inflation and end foreign engagements, but polling averages have remained in the mid-30s or lower through the summer amid persistent energy costs and conflict-related uncertainty. Any near-term de-escalation, fuel-price relief, or policy developments could influence whether ratings rebound before year-end or remain constrained.
