Recent typhoon activity, including the approach and passage of a large, strong system near eastern Japan on September 20–21, has introduced cooler, moist air and extensive cloud cover that are moderating overnight lows for Tokyo on the 22nd. Official forecasts from multiple models converge on minimum temperatures of 22–24°C, with some guidance showing 21–23°C under lingering showers and northwesterly flow. These conditions align with seasonal norms for late September, where average lows hover near 22°C, but the post-storm environment creates tight uncertainty between the closely matched 23°C and 24°C market outcomes. Traders are watching the final Japan Meteorological Agency model runs and evening observations for any shifts in cloud timing or wind direction that could tip the lowest reading.
