Saudi Arabia and Kuwait recently lifted restrictions on U.S. military access to their bases and airspace, clearing a key hurdle for potentially restarting Project Freedom, a U.S.-led operation launched May 4 to escort commercial ships through the Iran-disrupted Strait of Hormuz but paused within 48 hours amid escalation fears and diplomatic hopes. President Trump stated on Fox News two days ago he is considering renewal—possibly as an expanded "Project Freedom Plus"—if U.S.-Iran ceasefire talks collapse, as recent reports indicate stalled progress. Traders weigh definitive announcements from the White House, CENTCOM, or Trump against ongoing negotiations and risks of further de-escalation signals, with a potential restart as early as this week ahead of the market's May 31 resolution window.
