Brazil's central bank delivered a fourth consecutive 25-basis-point Selic cut to 14.00% on August 5, aligning with the market-implied 85.4% probability of another quarter-point reduction at the September Copom meeting. Cooling headline inflation—to 4.44% year-over-year in July from 4.64% in June—along with moderating economic activity and improved inflation projections have reinforced trader expectations for a measured easing path, while the central bank's data-dependent stance and emphasis on restrictive real rates keep a hold outcome priced at 13.5%. Persistent upside risks from elevated 2026 inflation expectations near 5% and external uncertainties limit odds of deeper or reversal moves. The September decision will hinge on upcoming inflation prints and growth indicators.
