Recent July 2026 CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, down from 3.5% in June, anchors trader sentiment for the August annual print, reflecting easing energy prices and shelter costs amid a stable labor market. With outcomes clustered tightly around 3.3–3.5%, markets price in modest further cooling or stability, consistent with the Federal Reserve’s focus on inflation trajectories toward its 2% target. Key swing factors include upcoming monthly core CPI trends, gasoline price movements, and any revisions to prior data, while the September release itself serves as the immediate resolution catalyst. This distribution captures real-capital consensus on the balance between persistent shelter inflation and broader disinflationary forces.
