Recent July CPI data showed a modest 0.1% month-over-month rise and 3.4% year-over-year rate, with shelter contributing most of the gain while energy prices eased following prior shocks. Cleveland Fed nowcasts as of mid-August point to a 0.35% headline increase for August, driven by core components around 0.20%, amid ongoing volatility in gasoline, food, and shelter categories. Trader sentiment remains balanced across monthly outcomes near zero because August data collection is incomplete, leaving room for swings from seasonal adjustments, commodity prices, and any tariff pass-through effects. This evenly matched pricing underscores uncertainty ahead of the September release and reflects aggregated positioning on incoming economic releases.
