Robert Abela maintains a commanding lead in trader assessments for Malta's next prime minister, driven by his role as incumbent Labour Party leader and the party's continuous governance since 2013. His April decision to call a snap general election for May 30, framed around the need for stability amid geopolitical tensions, has underscored party cohesion and limited internal challenges. Recent candidate nominations and manifesto launches further reinforce this positioning ahead of the vote. While Alex Borg leads the opposition Nationalist Party, structural advantages for the governing side and consistent polling margins have shaped the current consensus. Late shifts in voter turnout, unexpected economic pressures, or coalition realignments could still introduce uncertainty before resolution.
