Recent July CPI data showing a 0.5% year-on-year rise, below consensus and the softest reading in months, has shaped trader views on August annual inflation by highlighting persistent food-price weakness, especially in pork, alongside slower non-food gains from tepid domestic demand and easing energy costs. The near-even split between the 0.7–0.8% and 0.5–0.6% brackets reflects ongoing uncertainty over whether subdued retail sales and producer-price moderation will hold through seasonal holiday effects or shift with fresh policy measures and commodity movements. Upcoming releases on industrial output, retail sales, and key price categories, along with any monetary or fiscal signals, could clarify momentum before the September release and widen the probability gap.
