Recent flock rebuilding following the 2025 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks has boosted egg supply and driven wholesale prices sharply lower, keeping the August 2026 BLS average retail price for a dozen Grade A large eggs centered in the low $2 range. July’s $2.189 reading and June’s $2.141 figure reflect this stabilization, with retail prices lagging the steeper wholesale declines amid steady consumer demand. Market-implied odds cluster tightly between $2.10–$2.40, underscoring uncertainty over whether further supply absorption or modest seasonal demand will nudge the final print higher or lower within that band. Key near-term catalysts include the September CPI release and any additional HPAI developments that could tighten inventories before month-end.
