Recent August consumer price data showed China's annual inflation rising to 0.8 percent, supported by higher non-food prices including transport costs tied to fuel, while food items such as pork remained in deflation amid ample supply and soft consumption. Core inflation excluding food and energy reached 1.0 percent. Traders weigh these energy-driven gains against persistent weakness in domestic demand and housing-related prices that have capped broader momentum. Forecasts for September cluster near 0.8–1.0 percent, reflecting seasonal patterns and commodity influences that could push readings into either leading bucket. The narrow spread between the top two outcomes captures uncertainty over whether fuel pressures will sustain the recent uptick or if demand softness will keep the print closer to the prior month's level ahead of the mid-October release.
