The Democratic primary will take place on June 23, 2026. If no nominee is announced by November 3, 2026, 11:59PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". Any replacement of the nominee before election day will not change the resolution of the market. The strong endorsement from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has positioned Assemblymember Claire Valdez as the clear frontrunner in the June 23 Democratic primary for New York’s 7th congressional district, an open seat following incumbent Nydia Velázquez’s retirement. Valdez, a first-term state lawmaker and Democratic Socialists of America member with deep labor ties, has also secured backing from Justice Democrats and raised the most funds in recent quarters. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, who holds Velázquez’s endorsement and benefits from his established role in city government, trails as the main alternative with support from some unions and party organizations. Other candidates, including City Councilmember Julie Won, remain far behind in both fundraising and market positioning. The race centers on competing progressive priorities and organizational strength ahead of the primary vote.
