On April 21, 2026, the United States Department of Justice announced an indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) including charges of wire fraud and bank fraud, among others (see: https://www.npr.org/2026/04/21/g-s1-118275/southern-poverty-law-center-fraud-charges-paid-informants). This market will resolve to “Yes” if any Federal or State jurisdiction of the United States formally charges or otherwise announces a criminal indictment of any individual person as part of this case, or in direct connection to the criminal conduct alleged in this case, between market creation and June 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. For the purposes of this market the District of Columbia and any county, municipality, or other subdivision of a State shall be included within the definition of a State. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from US governmental sources, however a wide consensus of credible reporting will also be used. The Department of Justice's April 21 indictment of Southern Poverty Law Center executives on 11 counts of wire fraud, false statements, and money laundering—alleging over $3 million in donor funds were secretly routed to Ku Klux Klan and other violent extremist informants between 2014 and 2023—has driven trader consensus to a slim 54.5% "Yes" probability. This closely contested pricing reflects uncertainty over prosecutorial merits: DOJ claims the payments funded the extremism SPLC vowed to combat, while the organization pleads not guilty, arguing standard infiltration tactics lacked fraudulent intent and accusing political motivations under the Trump administration. Tipping toward "Yes" could come from evidentiary hearings affirming donor deception or additional charges; "No" via pretrial dismissal, acquittal, or special counsel scrutiny of the case's origins. Federal court proceedings continue.
