Recent July CPI data printed at 0.5% year-on-year, below forecasts and marking the softest reading in months amid falling food costs and slower non-food price gains. Persistent weakness in domestic demand, subdued retail sales momentum, and easing producer price pressures have kept expectations for August contained. Traders see the tight split between the 0.5–0.6% and 0.7–0.8% brackets reflecting uncertainty over whether the recent disinflation trend will hold or reverse with any uptick in energy costs, holiday-related spending, or policy support measures. Upcoming monthly indicators on industrial output, consumer prices for key categories such as pork, and global commodity movements could shift the balance ahead of the September release.
