Recent July CPI data showed a modest 0.1% monthly headline gain and 0.2% core increase, with gasoline prices falling again and shelter contributing the bulk of the rise, establishing a soft base for August readings. Cleveland Fed nowcasts point to around 0.35% MoM headline inflation for August, while professional forecasts center near 0.2-0.3% amid easing energy pressures and stable core goods. Trader-implied odds cluster tightly around 0.3-0.4% outcomes and higher prints at or above 0.5%, reflecting uncertainty over potential rebounds in services inflation, seasonal adjustments, and any late-month energy volatility that could push the figure higher before the mid-September release.
