Trader consensus on South Africa’s 2026 annual inflation rate shows closely matched probabilities across the 3.8–4.4% ranges, with the 4.1–4.4% band edging ahead at 39.1% implied probability. February and March 2026 CPI prints at 3.0% and 3.1% respectively, combined with the South African Reserve Bank’s March forecast of a near-term lift toward 4% from higher fuel and energy costs, underpin the current positioning. Market-implied odds reflect expectations that these pressures will prove transitory, allowing inflation to unwind toward the 3% target later in the year amid stable core readings and contained food-price gains. Upcoming May monetary-policy decisions and Q2 data releases on energy and transport components remain key swing factors that could shift sentiment among the tightly clustered outcomes.
