Recent July ISM Services PMI data at 54.1, with business activity surging to 59.1 and new orders at 57.2 amid resilient demand, anchors expectations for the August reading near current levels despite mixed employment at 47.4. Persistent price pressures from petroleum costs, tariffs, and geopolitical tensions, alongside cooling services hiring and a stronger July manufacturing PMI at 55.6, create competing signals that support the closely matched probabilities across the 50–54 and 58+ ranges. Traders weigh steady expansion against downside risks from labor weakness and inflation concerns ahead of the September 3 release, with the spread reflecting uncertainty over whether momentum holds or moderates.
