Bank of Canada projections updated in the July 2026 Monetary Policy Report form the central driver behind current Polymarket odds, with the institution lifting its 2026 CPI forecast to 2.5% while signaling inflation will remain near the 2% target midpoint over the medium term. Recent data reinforce this path: headline inflation cooled to 2.8% year-over-year in June from 3.2% in May, driven by softer gasoline prices, while core measures (CPI-trim and median) fell to 1.8–1.9%. Subdued economic growth, a policy rate held steady at 2.25%, and expectations that energy volatility will ease further support trader positioning around the 2.5–2.9% outcome. The July CPI release scheduled for August 17 represents the next near-term catalyst that could shift implied probabilities.
