Recent July 2026 Eurostat data showing euro area headline inflation rising to 2.9% from 2.8% in June, driven by energy prices jumping to 10.0% amid renewed US-Iran tensions, has reinforced trader positioning for the full-year 2026 average. Sticky services inflation near 3.3% and core measures climbing to 2.5% highlight underlying pressures that exceed the ECB’s 2% target, supporting the 59.9% market-implied odds for a 3.1%+ outcome. Persistent geopolitical energy risks and limited near-term disinflation momentum outweigh softer food components, though August CPI and upcoming ECB communications could shift rate expectations and implied probabilities.
