Recent forecasts from sources including the National Weather Service and major models indicate a cooling trend for Los Angeles on August 31, with highs expected in the upper 70s to mid-80s amid strengthening onshore flow and morning marine layer influence. This follows an August heat wave that pushed recent highs into the mid-80s to low 90s, well above the 1991–2020 average of 76.8°F. Traders have priced 78–79°F as the clear favorite at 49% implied probability because ensemble guidance shows stabilization near seasonal norms rather than continued anomalous warmth. Key variables include the depth of the marine layer, which can suppress peak temperatures by several degrees along the coast, and any late shifts in the subtropical ridge. New model runs and NWS updates over the next 48 hours remain the primary catalysts that could adjust these odds.
