Édouard Philippe maintains a commanding lead in trader consensus for the 2027 French presidential race against Gabriel Attal due to sustained polling advantages within the center-right and centrist bloc. Recent Ifop and OpinionWay surveys from September 2026 place Philippe ahead of Attal in first-round intentions when both run, with Philippe better positioned to consolidate Macron-aligned and moderate right voters. Developments in early September, including Philippe’s call for November unity talks with Attal, Bruno Retailleau, and François Bayrou, contrasted with Attal’s emphasis on independent campaigning and criticism of Philippe’s transition proposals, have underscored the rivalry without shifting momentum. Traders appear to price in Philippe’s stronger personal ratings, broader appeal against Rassemblement National contenders, and experience as former prime minister, while viewing Attal’s lower visibility and internal party tensions as persistent hurdles.
