Canada's Liberal government under Prime Minister Mark Carney secured a parliamentary majority in April 2026 through by-election victories and floor crossings, eliminating the procedural pressures that previously sustained minority status. With the next fixed-date election scheduled for October 2029 under the Canada Elections Act, and no votes of non-confidence or supply defeats on the horizon, party leaders have little incentive to dissolve Parliament before June 30. Recent polling shows only modest partisan shifts and limited public appetite for an immediate contest, reinforcing trader consensus around the low probability of an early writ. Unforeseen developments such as a sudden loss of seats or acute external crisis could theoretically alter the timeline, though none appear imminent within the narrow window.
