Wu Hsiu-hua, the Kuomintang nominee and current Taitung County Council speaker, holds the strongest position in the November 28, 2026, magistrate race to succeed term-limited incumbent Yao Ching-ling. KMT dominance in eastern Taiwan counties and the absence of a viable independent challenger after Liu Chao-hao's exit underpin trader consensus around her lead. DPP legislator Chen Ying remains the main opposition contender, with former President Tsai Ing-wen agreeing in early August to chair her campaign effort. Recent developments, including no penalties for the incumbent's Straits Forum appearance, have produced limited movement in positioning. Other listed candidates reflect lower implied probabilities consistent with the two-party structure typical of Taiwan local magistrate contests.
