With the first round of Brazil’s 2026 presidential election set for October 4, trader consensus on first place in Maranhão remains tightly clustered near 45–50% across a broad field because the state’s Northeast electorate has historically favored Workers’ Party candidates while national polls show Lula leading Flávio Bolsonaro by roughly 5–10 points amid a fragmented opposition. Recent national surveys through mid-August continue to register double-digit undecided voters and low single-digit support for figures such as Ronaldo Caiado, Romeu Zema, and Renan Santos, leaving ample room for regional turnout shifts, coalition realignments, or late campaign events to alter state-level ordering. The wide dispersion of prices reflects uncertainty over whether established PT strength in Maranhão will hold against any surge by right-leaning challengers.
