Édouard Philippe maintains a clear lead in trader assessments for the 2027 French presidential race due to his stronger polling position within the fragmented centrist bloc. Recent surveys from September 2026, including those by Ipsos, Ifop, and OpinionWay, show Philippe consistently ahead of Gabriel Attal when both candidates are tested, often by margins of 6–10 points in first-round scenarios, with Philippe better able to consolidate center-right and Macron-aligned voters. Philippe has advanced this edge through recent campaign organization, including a broadened committee and outreach to right and center figures for potential unity talks scheduled around early November. Attal, who declared his candidacy in May 2026, has focused on policy differentiation and renewal messaging but trails in the same polls and has seen limited movement in consolidating the same electorate. The overall first-round environment remains dominated by far-right and far-left contenders, underscoring the importance of center cohesion for either former prime minister.
