The KMT-TPP coordination poll in late April 2026 established Lee Shu-chuan as the joint opposition nominee for New Taipei mayor after he outperformed Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang, leading to Huang's campaign suspension and unified backing. This consolidation has positioned Lee as the clear frontrunner against Democratic Progressive Party nominee Su Chiao-hui in subsequent surveys, with traders reflecting the structural advantage of opposition unity in a race scheduled for November 28, 2026. Recent KMT candidate rallies in July have sustained momentum without introducing major shifts, while Su's candidacy remains the primary counterweight. Low probabilities for Huang and other listed contenders align with their limited viability following the alliance decision and lack of independent polling traction.
