Incumbent Toyohito Ikeda holds a clear lead in the Kagawa gubernatorial race ahead of the August 30 vote, reflecting his established position since taking office in 2022 and recent endorsement by the Centrist Reform Coalition in late May. With the official announcement period opening around August 13, limited visibility for challengers such as Katsunori Sone, Kenichi Tanabe, and Fumihiko Senoo has kept their implied probabilities low. The crowded field of lesser-known or placeholder candidates shows no signs of coordinated opposition or major policy shifts that would alter the current balance. Traders appear to price in the typical advantages of incumbency in Japanese prefectural contests, including name recognition and institutional support, with only narrow room for late developments to shift the outcome before election day.
