Romania's political landscape shifted sharply after the May 5 no-confidence vote that removed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, fracturing the pro-EU coalition and leaving parliament without a clear majority. President Nicușor Dan has opened consultations with parties while signaling openness to a technocratic cabinet to secure investiture and protect fiscal reforms amid EU fund deadlines. This environment has elevated independent or technocratic figures in trader assessments, with Delia Velculescu positioned ahead due to her profile in international finance and perceived neutrality. Partisan alternatives like Sorin Grindeanu or Radu Burnete trail as coalition arithmetic remains uncertain, with smaller parties lacking sufficient seats and larger ones divided over austerity measures. Resolution hinges on parliamentary approval by late June.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
