Janez Janša’s commanding position in the market for Slovenia’s next prime minister reflects the collapse of coalition negotiations following the March 2026 parliamentary elections. His Slovenian Democratic Party finished with 28 seats, just one behind the Freedom Movement’s 29, creating a hung parliament where smaller center-right parties hold the balance. Outgoing Prime Minister Robert Golob’s inability to assemble a majority prompted the president to advance the process to a second round, positioning Janša to pursue a center-right coalition. Trader consensus prices this outcome at 94 percent because historical patterns show the largest opposition bloc often succeeds once the incumbent fails. A realistic challenge remains if centrist or center-left parties unexpectedly coalesce behind an alternative nominee or if parliament opts for fresh elections.
