The Maskinongé race remains tightly contested between CAQ incumbent Simon Allaire and PQ challenger Isabelle Blais, with provincial polling showing the two parties essentially tied ahead of the October 5 vote. Allaire reversed an earlier decision to retire and secured the CAQ nomination after the writs were dropped in late August, preserving continuity for the party that won the seat decisively in 2022. Blais, an actress and local native who captured the PQ nomination in April, benefits from the party's rising momentum in the Mauricie region and broader francophone voter shifts. Lower-polling candidates from the PLQ, QS, and PCQ split the remainder of the vote, limiting their ability to alter the CAQ-PQ dynamic. Upcoming advance voting and any late provincial swings could still shift the narrow margin.
