Esteban “Steve” Guerra secured the Democratic nomination for Cameron County Judge in the May 26, 2026, runoff by defeating three-term incumbent Eddie Trevino Jr. with 55% of the vote. Cameron County’s strong Democratic registration and voting patterns give the party nominee a substantial advantage in the November general election against Republican Mauro Garza. Guerra’s prior role as Port of Brownsville board chairman and emphasis on local infrastructure, services, and economic priorities helped consolidate support after a competitive March primary. Trader consensus reflected in the current odds treats these structural and primary results as decisive, with limited realistic pathways for the Republican candidate to overcome the county’s partisan balance absent major late developments such as turnout anomalies or unforeseen candidate issues.
