Recent July CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, with a modest 0.1% monthly rise and core at 2.5%, has centered trader expectations for the August annual rate near 3.3–3.5%. Cleveland Fed nowcasts as of mid-August project 3.36% headline, supported by stable shelter costs and subdued energy prices amid resilient labor markets. Market-implied odds reflect this consensus, pricing limited further deceleration before the September 11 release while acknowledging upside risks from any rebound in goods or services inflation. Persistent readings above the Fed’s 2% target continue to shape sentiment, with FOMC communications and upcoming data influencing rate path expectations.
