Peggy Flanagan holds a commanding position in the August 11 Democratic primary for Minnesota’s open U.S. Senate seat due to her DFL party endorsement, backing from retiring Sen. Tina Smith, and consistent polling leads of 7–9 points over Rep. Angie Craig. Recent head-to-head debates and heavy outside spending—tens of millions from moderate-aligned groups—have highlighted ideological contrasts on immigration, healthcare, and corporate ties, yet Flanagan’s favorability edge and statewide organization have kept her favored in urban strongholds like Ramsey County. Craig’s electability arguments and fundraising have narrowed gaps in some surveys but failed to close the overall deficit ahead of voting. The market’s high implied probability for Flanagan reflects this late-stage consolidation among Democratic primary voters.
