Wu Hsiu-hua, the Kuomintang nominee and Taitung County Council speaker, holds an 87% implied probability in the market for the November 28, 2026, magistrate election, reflecting the county’s longstanding KMT structural advantage in an open seat after the incumbent’s term limit. The DPP’s Chen Ying, an incumbent legislator with indigenous Puyuma ties in a county where roughly one-quarter of voters share that background, sits at 10% as the primary challenger, though coordination among opposition candidates has narrowed her path. Recent September 2026 questioning of councilors in a road-widening investigation tied to Wu’s family has introduced scrutiny without materially shifting trader consensus, as historical KMT performance and limited polling momentum continue to anchor pricing ahead of formal candidate registration.
