National polling trends favoring Sweden’s center-left bloc have lifted Social Democrat Henrik Fritzon, the current opposition leader and former chair (2014–2018), slightly ahead of Moderate incumbent Carl Johan Sonesson in trader pricing for the next Region Skåne chair. The contest remains tight because the outcome hinges on the September 2026 regional election results and subsequent coalition negotiations in a fragmented multi-party system, where no single bloc holds a clear majority. Sonesson benefits from incumbency and continuity in healthcare and fiscal management since 2018, while Fritzon draws support from shifting national sentiment toward the Social Democrats. Lower-priced alternatives such as Anna Jähnke reflect limited coalition leverage or party positioning. Late polling shifts, alliance deals, or turnout in key municipalities could quickly widen the gap between the top two contenders.
