Recent July ISM Services PMI data at 54.1, just below consensus, combined with commentary noting temporary boosts from World Cup and U.S. anniversary events, anchor trader expectations for a modest August pullback amid resilient but uneven services expansion. Business activity and new orders strengthened in July while employment contracted and prices paid rose to 70.3, reflecting persistent cost pressures from petroleum inputs despite fewer tariff and geopolitical concerns. The closely matched probabilities around 53.0–54.9 reflect uncertainty over whether the services sector can sustain momentum above its 12-month average or cool toward 53 amid mixed leading indicators like slower supplier deliveries. Key swing factors include upcoming labor market data and any further moderation in inflation signals ahead of the September 3 release.
